The Center sees children and adults for brief and long-term individual, group, couples, and family therapy. We follow a trauma-centered approach in which we address the original cause of the distress, the traumatic or abusive events. We also may use exposure treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and the Counting Method. We provide medication treatment when necessary. For children, we ask that at least one of their caregivers participates in treatment, and we often use a form of play therapy to help young children express themselves. We do not currently offer inpatient or intensive outpatient services, though we are able to see clients multiple times per week depending on your insurance coverage.
Referrals can be made at any time by calling 203-624-2146. Our administrative staff will first collect some basic information from you and then you will be contacted by one of our clinicians to set up an evaluation appointment.
Evaluation: Center staff will conduct in-depth evaluations for trauma-related disorders, for clients applying for treatment at the Center, for clients of other providers who wish consultation with a specialist, and for forensic purposes.
Psychopharmacotherapy: Our medical staff offer up-to-date assessment and treatment options for medications for posttraumatic stress disorder, mood disorders (bipolar and depression), and anxiety disorders.
Individual Therapy: Conducted by clinicians at the Center, individual therapy is tailored to the needs of the client, and include when necessary taking a trauma history, desensitization procedures, cognitive-behavioral interventions, and supportive therapy.
Group Therapy: The Center offers a number of groups, including the Women’s Trauma Program, a 16 week trauma-centered therapy aimed to reduce the symptoms of PTSD; two ongoing groups for women, a men’s group, a group for veterans, and a trauma-centered group for teens.
Couples and Family Therapy: The Center offers marital, couples, and family therapy from a trauma-centered perspective.
Information about Insurance and Payment Options
The Center accepts workmen's compensation but no longer accepts Medicaid or Medicare, or any commercial insurance. Your commercial insurance may cover some of the costs if you have out of network benefits for behavioral health care. We will provide each client with a receipt reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept checks, credit cards, and cash. Client fees are determined by the type of service and which professional provider is seen for treatment. We are a private clinic so there are no facility fees and your medical records are never released without your signed approval.
